When Diva Dog Bakery was brand new...
I was baking, selling and trying to figure out how to handle donation requests, all at the same time.
As a small bakery with a big heart, I wanted to help every rescue but I also needed to make money.
I just needed a plan that was sustainable.
I was regularly recieiving donation requests, whether in-person or via email.
I always felt caught off guard when people asked, and I didn't know how to best respond, especially when asked during busy markets and events.
I knew I couldn’t keep giving away my time and my dog treats for free if I wanted my bakery to survive.
But I also needed to remove myself from the constant 1-on-1 pressure.
Problem #2
As I was learning how to sell in-person and plan for markets, I sometimes ended up with leftover dog treats.
I didn’t feel right reselling them, so I’d keep a few and give the rest away. It wasn’t a great strategy.
So I reached out to the rescue where I adopted my pets and worked out a plan.
When I had extra treats, I packaged them up and dropped them off.
I was able to support a rescue and made a lot of dogs happy!
Problem #1
Leftover Treats
Giving It Away
So I stepped back and looked at what was actually happening in my business.
First I turned leftovers into lemonade.
Then I turned giving it away into a giving system.
My Giving System:
No pressure. No guilt.
Just giving on my terms.
Sustainable giving.
Small rescues.
Real impact.
Supporting animals is part of how I run my business.
