The 10 Best Treats For Puppies

New puppies are always fun and exciting. However, what’s not fun is having to train them. But the task must be done in order to have a well behaved and non-destructive pup (especially if you have a larger or more energetic breed). If you’re looking for dog treats that you can use to train your puppy, keep reading.

These are the best dog treats for puppies that you can get on the market!

#1 – Check Out Your Pantry First

Did you know that a puppy can have small treats from your pantry? This includes treats like:

  • Small pieces of meat (unseasoned and NO bones)
  • Peanut butter (without xylitol)
  • Bananas
  • Apples
  • Popcorn (plain and air popped)
  • and more!

Not only are these treats safe for puppies, but there are many that are naturally grain free and work as easy training treats. Just remember to give your puppy treats that aren’t toxic to dogs.

#2 – Wellness Soft Puppy Bites

These Wellness soft puppy bitesare some of themost natural options for your puppy. These are a wonderful treat option for puppies due to their small size and soft texture. Because of the fact that they’re soft, you won’t have to worry about your pup choking on them.

Got a picky puppy? No worries. These training treats come in a few different flavors, including chicken and carrot. They’re also grain free and free of artificial colors. And, you can also pronounce every single ingredient on their nutrition label, which makes it easy to pass along these natural dog treats.

Not only are these treats high value and quality, but they’re filled with Omega-3s and are high in protein.

#3 – Zuke’s Mini Training Bites

Zuke’s mini training bites are the best option for you if you have a tiny pup. These training treats come in savory options like chicken and salmon, but also have peanut butter and oats as an option if your dog has a bit of a sweet tooth.

The treats are also low calorie, with just 2 calories per treat. Because they’re lower calorie but still high value, you can feel safe giving these to smaller puppies who are on a lower calorie diet, or who need to lose weight. And, their small size means you won’t feel guilty if your pup eats more than just a couple.

It’s important to keep in mind that these treats are not grain free. So if your puppy has any sensitivity to grains, this may not be the best option for them.

#4 – Buffalo Blue Bits

These soft and moist Buffalo Blue training dog treats are the perfect size for a puppy. And, they have multiple flavors, so you’re bound to find the right treats for your pet.

These treats have the meat as the first ingredient (chicken, salmon, beef). And they’re rich in Omega-3 and -6 fatty acids, which can help promote healthy skin and coat. The DHA in the treats has been thought to help support cognitive development in puppies as well.

The treats are fairly healthy, and contain brown rice, oatmeal, and flaxseed to support healthy digestion. And, they’re free of corn, wheat, soy, and artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.

#5 – Wellness Core Jerky Bits

There are quite a few jerky options for dogs out there. But these Wellness Core Jerky bites are for small dogs and puppies. These treats are;

  • Made with beef
  • Free of wheat, wheat-gluten, corn, soy, artificial colors or flavors
  • High in iron, calcium, vitamin A, and zinc (so great for puppies or a dog that needs a little more nutrition)
  • Only 5 calories per treat, perfect for training!

The treats are also minimally processed and have as few ingredients as possible. They keep dogs health and wellness in mind when making these treats, and it shows. If you’re looking for a natural dog treat that your pup will love, these are one of the best options.

#6 – Stewart Freeze-Dried Raw Dog Treats

These naturally crunchy and delicious treats are great for training. While soft enough for puppies, they also have a bit of a crunch to keep them fun and interesting.

The treats come in multiple sizes and flavors, including chicken and beef. They also only have 4 calories a treat, are high in protein, and are a great health conscious food option for your puppy. These treats will feel like a real reward, but without all the icky ingredients that some treats have.

In fact, the only ingredients that are in these treats are the one meat option that they are. So if you choose beef, the dog treats will be just that… beef. You can’t get more natural than that, and that’s great to know.

#7 – Old Mother Hubbard Classic Crunchy Natural Dog Treats

Looking for a training treat that’s classic, but with better ingredients? Your dog will love the Old Mother Hubbard Crunchy Treats. These biscuits are great for training dogs and puppies, and come in multiple sizes (like mini treats) for even the smallest dog.

They also have tons of flavors, including a bacon and cheese option, a chicken and apples choice, and even liver.

If you want your dog to get a taste for real food (but without sharing your plate) these are one of the best training treats to choose. And, the calories are fairly low at just 3 calories for each treat. So you can use these treats to reward your dog’s good work without the guilt.

Keep in mind that these treats are made with wheat. While they won’t affect many puppies and dogs, they may not work for yours if they have a wheat intolerance.

#8 – N-Bone Puppy Teething Treats

Dogs, just like humans, go through teething when they’re younger. These soft but chewy treats are the perfect solution to that! While they’re not ideal for training, they’re great for when your puppy needs to chew and soothe their gums and teeth. These treats are best for young puppies, small and big alike.

This treat option is edible, with a pliable texture to help massage sore gums. And, you don’t have to worry about your puppy accidentally cracking teeth or exposing nerves, because these treats were designed to protect the dog’s teeth.

They’re a great and health boosting treat that are low in fat, and are made in the USA.

#9 – Buddy Biscuits Soft & Chewy Dog Treats

This treat is perfect for training and is also fun and cute. The biscuits are gingerbread shaped, and small enough that you get a lot of value out of each bag. They’re also good for dogs with food sensitivities, and don’t have any corn, soy, or fillers.

Your dog’s going to love the flavor options too, and even you’ll love that you get multiple choices. They have a crunchy texture, are made without preservatives, and are great to reward your puppy, since they’re low in calories and fat.
