Easy Homemade Dog Treats You Can Make At Home

Have you ever thought about making your own homemade dog treats? It’s actually very easy to do and you can make some delicious (and nutritious) treats for your pup. Here are our favorite homemade dog treats that you can make right now.

The Best Homemade Dog Treats

We’ve written lots of articles about homemade dog treats and what you can make with ingredients you may already have in your pantry. So first, let’s talk about what you’ll need. While your list can be as simple or as long as you make it, we want to include our favorite ingredients and supplies that we use ourselves.

Ingredients & Tools You May Need

Each of these recipes have their own ingredients that you’ll need. But it’s important to remember that some ingredients that are safe for humans aren’t safe for dogs. Please stick to the recipes as written. If you need to substitute an ingredient, make sure to look up if it could be toxic to your dog or not.

Here are just a few ingredients that you could use to make homemade dog treats:

  • Unseasoned meats
  • Vegetables – including pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots, and green beans
  • Fruits – including bananas, watermelon, apples, berries, and mango
  • Peanut butter (NO xylitol)
  • Eggs
  • Sweet potatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and green beans

We also have a list of other dog-safe and nutritious ingredients that you may already have in your pantry.

There are plenty of fruits and vegetables that are safe to feed your pup. Just remember to avoid fruits and vegetables that could be toxic.

Also, don’t forget that there are some recipes that require specific tools or equipment to make them. We have a list of our favorite supplies to use to make dog treats, and you can view it here

#1 – Peanut Butter Dog Treats

The first treats on our list are these super easy and delicious peanut butter dog treats. Plus, these treats only require a few ingredients, and you may be able to find all of them in your cabinets.

The best part of these treats? You can use crunchy or creamy peanut butter. This will depend on your preference (and your dogs) but these treats are forgiving and work well with both options.

This recipe creates 24 dog treats, and can be frozen as well for long term storage.

#2 – Sweet Potato Dog Treats

Is your dog a fan of sweet potatoes? If they are, they’ll love these sweet potato dog treats. In fact, there are two different recipes that you can make for your pup.

The first is a dehydrated chew, which only requires one ingredient; sweet potatoes. If your dog prefers the traditional biscuit type of treats, we also have a baked sweet potato treat that you can try.

Just like the peanut butter dog treats, this recipe can make up to 24 treats, can be frozen, and can also be dehydrated for longer storage.

#3 – Frozen Dog Treats

Summer brings heat waves and lots of sunshine. But it also means many people don’t want to create meals and treats that require the stove or oven. Why not try out some frozen dog treats?

We have a whole list of treats to make. And many of the treats are easy to make and require just a few simple ingredients. While there are quite a few different treats to make, here are some of our favorites:

  • Nice cream – All you need is a few frozen bananas and some dog-friendly toppings.
  • “Special” ice cubes – Use broth or make it extra fancy by throwing in a few pieces of meat or peanut butter.

These treats are fun and easy to make. Plus, your dog will appreciate the cool treats on a hot summer day.

#4 – No-Bake Treats

Don’t want to bake treats, but not really looking for frozen treats for your pup either? Try no-bake treats instead!

We have a list of delicious, easy, human-grade no-bake treats that only require a few simple ingredients and some time in the fridge or freezer.

There are five different options on the list, but here are our top favorites:

  • Peanut butter fudge – this isn’t the fudge you’re used to eating during the holidays. Instead, this is a healthy treat that is dog (and human) friendly!
  • No-bake “energy” bites – these delicious and easily customizable treats will keep your dog entertained and happy with each new batch.

Are These Treats Safe?

Of course! We would never recommend treats or food that could hurt your pet. However, if your dog has allergies, be sure to eliminate or substitute any ingredients that they could have an adverse reaction to.

Are These Treats Organic?

While you can use organic ingredients to make these treats, the recipes aren’t organic. We use regular grocery ingredients unless otherwise stated. However, you are more than welcome to use organic and non-GMO ingredients if you’d prefer!

Can These Supplement Food?

No. Please don’t ever use treats as a supplement to your dog’s regular food and diet. Before making any changes to their permanent diet, please consult with your dog’s veterinarian. These treats are only to be used as intended, treats that are provided in moderation.

All of these homemade treats are easy to make, healthy, and super simple. Everyone deserves a treat every now and then, including your dog!
